What's included in this calculation?

The estimate covers every listed ingredient at its stated quantity — optional ingredients included, unless the cook's notes say otherwise — prepared as written and divided by the stated servings. All quantities are metric: weighed in grams or measured in ml, tsp and tbsp.

Recommended sides and optional pairings are not included. Where a combined figure appears, it is shown only inside a pairing card labelled “Estimated nutrition when paired with”.

Before publication, every recipe passes automated checks: macro arithmetic against stated calories, tag honesty, and a screen for medical-claim language.Read the editorial policy.

Ingredients (2 servings)

2 servings
  • 100 gBesan (gram flour)
  • 180 mlWater — approximate — adjust for a pourable batter
  • ½ pieceOnion — finely chopped
  • 1 pieceTomato — finely chopped
  • 1 pieceGreen chilli — finely chopped
  • 2 tbspCoriander leaves — chopped
  • ¼ tspTurmeric powder
  • 2 tspVegetable oil — for the tawa
  • to tasteSalt — to taste

Method

  1. Whisk the besan with the turmeric, salt and about 180 ml water to a smooth, pourable batter with no lumps. Rest for 5 minutes.

  2. Stir the chopped onion, tomato, green chilli and coriander into the batter.

  3. Heat a nonstick tawa on medium. Spread a ladle of batter into a thin 15 cm round.

  4. Drizzle a little oil around the edges and cook 2–3 minutes until the base is golden. Flip and cook 1–2 minutes more.

  5. Repeat with the remaining batter — the quantity makes about 4 chillas.

  6. Serve two chillas per person, hot, with a dip or chutney alongside.
